There’s No Time Limit On Embracing Your Truest Self: Ted Bach On Coming Out In His 80s

Many of us can relate to ‘going along to get along,’ especially when it comes to our identities, but by denying ourselves the opportunity to step into our truest, most authentic selves, we’re only hindering our own quality of life.

Just how much of our lives has been dictated by so-called societal ‘norms’?

Are we suppressing parts of ourselves to be more palatable to the masses?

More importantly, could we be doing that without even realizing it?

In this episode, I’m joined by Ted Bach, who shares his story of coming out as gay at the age of 80.

Being authentic isn’t the easiest thing in the world, but it can be done. You just have to be honest about yourself and to yourself. -Ted Bach

Three Curiosity-Driven Takeaways

  1. The importance of self-acceptance
How can we get better at accepting and loving ourselves for who we are, no matter what?
  2. How we push down and ignore certain parts of ourselves
Is there a way of knowing when our truest selves are trying to shine through, and could we be consciously (or unconsciously) suppressing them?
  3. Why we need to get intentional about creating inclusive environments
How can we play a part in building a world where everyone feels comfortable and confident with expressing themselves?
